According To The variety “KPop Demon Hunters” led with 10 wins at the 53rd Annie Awards, taking home trophies for best feature, character animation, direction and production design, among others. The awards, considered animation’s highest honor, were presented at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Director Ugo Bienvenu’s “Arco” won best independent feature, while Adult Swim’s “Common Side Effects” and Netflix’ “Love, Death + Robots” led in the television categories with four and three wins, respectively. “Common Side Effects” claimed the titles of best editorial, best writing, best mature TV/media and best direction, with “Love, Death + Robots” securing wins for best character design, best production design and best storyboarding.
Juried awards were also presented, including the Winsor McCay Award to Michaël Dudok de Wit, Christopher Miller, Phil Lord and Chris Sanders and the June Foray Award to Sandy Rabins. The Ub Iwerks Award for technical advancement affecting the animation industry was presented to Wacom and the Special Achievement Award was presented to LightBox Expo. ASIFA-Hollywood Merit Award was presented to Jeffrey New and Haley Mirren Douthit
